Project 4 - Happy Hippos...

So I bought some precut fabric squares on eBay for what I thought might be a cute, fun beach or pool tote. Decent size, pockets that weren't sewn shut. I thought I may even try for a compartment or two. And then... my husband saw the Happy Hippos fabric. I thought it was all hippos and wasn't thrilled when I saw that it was also elephants and rhinoceroses. Tom, on the other hand, was completely enamored. So what was going to be a tote is now going to be a full size throw. I have 3 more Happy "Hippos" charm packs coming and may need two more. What my husband does not know is that somehow I plan to get this done... whilst packing and moving, mind you, and wrap it up for his birthday July 27th. Anyway, here are a couple pictures of the very beginning...

I know to you seasoned sewers this is easy stuff, but I have to start somewhere, right?

Oh and I made an apron, too. My mom bought it for me, one of those cut on the dotted line, pin here, stitch here, deals. It's cute. If I remember I'll put up a picture.

Project 3 - Table Topper

Ok, so, while I wait for my other fabric squares to come in that I bought on Ebay, I bought another pack at the local sewing store to tie me over. Also, I'm leaving on vacation Thursday and only need a little something to keep me occupied til then. Now, I don't know what a table topper IS, what I'll do with it or where it will look good given the color that I picked, but darn it all, I'm making it. :o)

Here are a couple progress pics.

I am so in trouble...

I made that first handbag with precut squares. Since I don't have the room or the money or, quite frankly, the time to be cutting perfect squares I thought I'd check around online to see if there were any. IF THERE WERE ANY? I swear, I heard angels sing when I typed "quilt squares" into ebay, I kid you not... singing, for real.

So anyway, of course I saw about a hundred that I "loved" and "had to have". But it looks like I'm going to escape after only buying about 8 different sets. But now that I know they're there. It's going to be so hard to stay away.

Pandora's box? Open.

A little about me...

I realized I jumped right in to this whole sewing thing without saying anything about myself other than the brief blurb over there to the right.

I'm almost 30. I actually only have 2 days left til the sad end of my 20s. For my birthday, my husband bought me my first sewing machine. (I wanted one, don't worry.) It came last Thursday and due to the fact that it only has a 30-day money back guarantee he didn't make me wait to start using it.

It's just a simple machine, I found it on ebay and it was $70 including shipping. I had my eye on a $400 machine, but then life stepped in, told us we had to buy a house and my dream machine went out the window. In retrospect, it would have been silly to buy a $400 machine before knowing if I even wanted to sew. So it all works out and hopefully we'll close on our house June 30th.

I'm a mommy to 3 beautiful kitties. Henry is the baby at 2 years and has made an apperance on the blog already. Sometimes, I swear that cat is duplicating himself because he seems to be everywhere. We have two others: Sophie and Romeo who are best buds and this is them here: Sophie is the pretty black and white kitty and Romeo is the tabby. They are 3 and 4, respectively. We seriously went through a 3 year stretch when we couldn't stand not having a kitten. We're better now, thanks. :o)

I have a wonderful husband, who can be seen with me to the right a little over two and a half years ago. He's great, a little quirky, but great. He's almost finished converting his Delorean into a Back to the Future Delorean. Totally against my better judgement, but even I have to admit it looks pretty cool.

I do a few other things besides sew. I crochet and I Knifty Knit... which I totally know is cheating, but I have no desire to learn how to do it the right way.

So that's me, in a nutshell. I work. And I love my job. Just not enough to want to do it full time. Which is so unfortunate as that's how often I do it. :o) But it's alright.

So that's a little about me.

Oh and tonight I whipped this up. Just a little something while I waited for my hubs to get done on the computer.

Project 2 - Purse - Success!!!

So I found it. The. Perfect. Button. :o)

And now the handbag is complete! Yay!!! :o)

Even Henry approves! He jumped up during picture time. What a ham!

Project 2 - The Perfect Button

That's all I need. One perfect button. So I may go to JoAnn Fabrics at lunchtime. It's GIGANTIC. Much bigger than the one by me here, so I should be able to find The. Perfect. Button. there. If not, it just doesn't exist.

I decided to crochet the closure flap. I hope it looks alright. I think it looks kind of cute, actually. But if not, I'll just take it off and try something else. But I like it and I guess that's what matters.

Here it is... sans button.

Project 2 - Almost Done!!

Just need to get some straps and some sort of closure on this baby and it'll be done! I'm so proud!! The second side went so much faster than the first side. I guess I worked on it for a little less than two hours tonight. I guess when all is said and done I'll have 6 to 8 hours in it.
